Golden Globes Designer & FBI founding member Hanna Hartnell
hanna hartnellHanna Hartnell epitomizes today's creative LA designer, and has in fact perfected the art of using her creativity while combining it with her good business sense.  As designer and store owner of Hartnell Collections, whose products are sold to fine boutiques around the globe, Hanna has a well defined niche in the 'Special Occasion' market and offers custom servicing in color and size to her clients. Hanna's boutique and studio is located in downtown Santa Monica on 4th Street. Hanna has built a loyal clientele which includes celebrities Blythe Danner, Barbara Streisand and Melanie Griffith. At this years 2005 Golden Globes Awards, Morgan Freeman's wife and daughter both sparkled in Hartnell Collection dresses.

"Modern women who likes to wear feminine and romantic clothing" is how Hanna describes her clients. Her collection consists mainly of dresses, but includes a mix of separates that can be easily dressed up or down. Hanna enjoys working with fabrics that are timeless and romantic, but also modern and versatile.

Hanna began sewing at a young age, and by the time she was in high school her Home Economics Teacher, who also happened to be her Mother, encouraged her to make her own clothing, which sparked a love of fashion early on. Hanna never considered making a career from her hobby, and had in fact set out to open a business in Mexico with her Spanish and Business Degrees. Instead of moving to Mexico, however, she worked as a successful dress maker for the next 12 years. During that time, Hanna began to experiment with silk and velvet and created a twisting and pleating technique which was quite innovative. She also flew to Hong Kong to dye her own velvet fashion colors which was unusual at the time, since velvets were mainly found in dark earth tones. Her unique designs were quickly bought up by Maxfield's on Melrose, which was known for edgy clothing.

Hanna joined the FBI as member "number three" in 1999 and has enjoyed the benefits of membership since the FBI's inception. She has been featured in a number of FBI fashion shows and has taken advantage of many other FBI business development opportunities. Frances Harder, FBI Executive Director and founder describes Hanna "as one classy professional lady who has talent, plus all the other important components, which make a designer successful".  Visit Hanna Hartnell in her store or online @ www.HannaHartnell.com
