FBI is pleased to announce the return of our LA Market week fashion show series, starting on June 12th, the opening day of LA Market week.  The first show will feature the designs of Ximena Valero.

Born in Mexico City, Ximena Valero’s Latin vibrancy pulsates through her designs.  Trained at FIDM, early positions as a designer assistant  for  Victoria Secret lines Pink, Angel and Very Sexy helped to hone her knowledge of fit-inspired construction.

After collaborating with Elite Models and his founder John Casablanca, Valero shared her unique style with the fashion world with her 2006 Spring and Fall collections shown at New York Fashion Week.  Her draping technique, along with fabric choice and braided details, was recognized for its casual flattering femininity.  A whirlwind of travel and acclaim followed with a feature as one of sixty talented upcoming artists in Daab’s Young Upcoming Designers Americas, shows in the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Mexico City,St.Kitts in the Caribbean and Miami where she received the 2007 Miami Fashion Week’s Excellence in Evening Wear Award.

Valero’s Los Angeles debut line Fall in Love carries forward the signature body-conscious sexiness and daringly short silhouettes of past collections.  While playful whimsy keeps names and concepts light, (OMG and Gossip the two most popular) there is something new to this line we haven’t seen before – silhouettes with a chameleon-like ability for change.  The versatility of each Valero dress – some of which can be worn up to five different ways – is reflective of the current mode of the world at large, offering  value and allowing the modern woman to express her  individuality in each  garment.

Join us for an exciting evening of fashion, networking and fun!

Costume Designer for the hit TV show Scrubs, Injects the Outdated

Medical Uniform With a Dose of Hollywood Style.

When celebrity costume designer Carey Bennett landed a gig dressing the stars of the TV show “Scrubs,” she immediately thought it would be the easiest job ever. However Carey quickly realized the world’s most popular medical uniform wasn’t quite ready for prime time. Countless companies sent samples of their best styles in the hopes she’d use them, but none of them seemed to add any life to the show’s vivid cast of characters.  “Most were unisex, polyester and just plain hideous,” she explained.

After a season of pinning and tucking just about every medical scrub brand she could find, Carey decided to make her own.  She replaced paper-thin polyester with a comfy yet refined stretch poplin--contoured the common scrubs unisex styling into figure flattering silhouettes, and exchanged the murky-green scrub color of choice for pallets of fresh contemporary hues.  Soon as she had her final product in hand she fit them on the shows actors to a glowing response. “They were so excited, they were amazed by the comfort and the fit.” she explained.

As the show Scrubs ascended to become a primetime hit the actor’s designer scrubs were creating a buzz of their own. “When we first put the new scrubs on the show, people started calling and emailing asking questions like..What brand of scrubs do you use?  How do you get them to look so cute? With millions of real medical professionals wearing scrubs everyday Carey felt confident she uncovered a niche.

During Scrubs summer hiatus Carey teamed up with her husband Kevin to launch, Best Ever Scrubs selling ready- to-wear versions of her popular scrubs online.

To jump-start their business the duo joined FBI and started taking classes in apparel business development.  “We took quite a few classes,” Carey admits.  “The connections we’ve made have been invaluable.”  Kevin who’s worked in entertainment for over 25 years focuses on FBI’s business classes while Carey veers towards workshops in garment construction. “The classes give us just enough to work with to be legitimate business people.” Kevin says.

After 5 years, BES has developed a loyal following who after wearing the company's designer scrubs and never turned back.  “There are people that have reordered from us up to 20 times,” Kevin explains. Moving forward the company is launching a new website geared toward social networking to help them stay connected with their customers. They’ve also recently partnered with some style savvy medical sales reps to sell BES in bulk quantities directly to hospitals.  As Carey enters her 9th season on the Scrubs set the line’s popularity in entertainment circles helps to provide it with a continuous stream of visibility.  BES has been featured on shows including General Hospital, Nip/Tuck and HawthoRNe.

“We are the scrubs that Hollywood wears and that’s a big advantage for us” Kevin says.  Fortunately with their company’s functional products, unique niche and a rapidly growing market of medial professionals they’re likely to experience much more longevity than 15 minutes of fame.
